Kenyon Wilson is the Associate Professor of Tuba/Euphonium at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Principal Tubist with the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra in Alabama and the Symphony Orchestra Augusta in Georgia. His past teaching positions include full-time appointments at Central Michigan University, Valdosta State University in Georgia, and the Baku Music Academy in Azerbaijan where he served as a Lecturing Fulbright Scholar. He has performed recitals in the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia. Dr. Wilson holds degrees from the University of Georgia, Baylor University, and Tennessee Technological University.
He serves as an associate editor for the ITEA Journal and contributed a chapter to the Guide to Tuba Repertoire: The New Tuba Source Book. He has several published compositions and arrangements, and in 2008 his music was the subject of an article in the Arts Section of the Wall Street Journal. His latest work, Fearful Symmetry, was premiered by the All-Star Artists Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble at the 2010 International Tuba/Euphonium Conference in Tucson, Arizona.
Dr. Wilson and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga hosted the 2011 Southeast Regional Tuba/Euphonium Conference on March 10-12, 2011.
Kenyon's Songs of Distant Earth, received its South American premiere at the 36° Festival Nacional de Musica at the Universidade Federal de Goiás in Brazil on November 5th.
Kenyon's Songs of Distant Earth took third prize in the 40th Anniversary ITF Composition Contest.
Inertia, written to celebrate the 45th year of the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble, was premiered at TTU on November 5th.
The Morehead State University Trombone Ensemble premiered Kenyon's Isle of Mann at the at MSU on November 21.
The Morehead State University Trombone Ensemble premiered Kenyon's Penultimate Tango at the Commonwealth Trombone Summit in Kentucky on October 3rd.
Dr. Bill Mann and the Morehead State University Tuba/ Euphonium Ensemble recorded Kenyon's Trifecta for a new CD to be released this fall.
Maureen Horgan's new CD Moe's Bit o'Blues, coming this fall, includes Kenyon's Trifecta for brass quintet.
