Cruise Elroy
for contrabass trombone and piano
Cruise Elroy for contrabass trombone and piano celebrates the antagonists from Toru Iwatani’s arcade game Pac-Man (1980). Each of the four themes reflects a personality of the iconic ghosts. A lyrical tango, Shadowy, opens the piece. The second theme, Bashful, is an awkward exchange between the soloist and piano, with the piano representing the inner doubt of the performer. Slow and burdensome, the Pokey theme explores the extreme lower register of the contrabass. The final section, Speedy, demonstrates the agility of this grand instrument.

Tubaku

Tubaku was composed while Kenyon was teaching at the Baku Music Academy in Azerbaijan, where he spent a semester as a lecturing Fulbright Scholar. The piece was a gift to Ali Hajiev, Professor of Tuba at the Baku Music Academy. It was premiered in December 2002 and receives its first recording on Ben Pierce’s Wheels of Life with Dr. Pierce performing both parts of the duet.
